The Ghent Cropper – also known by names: Boulant Gantois, Genter Kröpfer, Gozzuto di Gand, Гентский дутыш – are varieties originating from Flanders (Belgium), which are known to have been developed since the 1400s. However, through a long development history, these new varieties were lifted around the 1980s. Now varieties belonging to this cropper pigeons has been developed widely in various countries, especially in Europe. Its development is merely to give birth to an attractive display pigeon.
The Ghent Cropper, together with the Pomeranian cropper and the Dutch Cropper, is one of the three main large, heavily feathered Cropper breeds. He is mainly characterized by his short and strong appearance with a slightly curved backline and a broad and upright chest. If we look at the shape of the three varieties, you can place the Pomeranian Cropper in a standing rectangle, the Dutch Cropper in a horizontal rectangle and the Ghent Cropper in a square.
